Injection Pump Timing
I took the Injection pump off at the GEAR housing. I didnt not take cover plate off, take the 3 bolts off and seperate the gear and pump. I just took the 4 bolts to the gear housing off. Had to fix leaking injector Orings and Leaking metal lines. I put it all back together and didnt even think to time the pump and idk how many teeth the gear is off. Its pouring smoke at idle. My question is, is this how you time the INjection pump? the notch on the pump&housing are already lined up. not advanced nor retared.
to re-time the new pump to the engine turn the crankshaft by using a breaker bar and a socket until the #1 piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke.
When the cranksaft is positioned correctly, the injection pump drive gear dowel will be in the four O'clock position and the scribe line on the vibration damper should be at TDC. Also the "y" marks on the pump gear should align with the "O" marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears. I think his is is not visible if you only remove the injection pump housing.
after having the Injection Pump off of my dads truck in the process of replacing the head gaskets we cannot get it timed again. The book said to get no. 1 piston at top dead center and set the dowel pin on the pump drive at 4 o'clock
