Hypermax question
I'm looking at a used hypermax pulse turbo kit for my 90 7.3. Is there anything I should know or look for when I see this kit?

Just look for all the pieces that would make it complete. Up pipes, down pipe, turbo pedistal, intake, turbo oil feed line, intake hat, nuts/bolts, ect...
Inpect the turbo, rotate the compressor wheel and see if it contacts the housing. Check for side to side and in and out play, there should be very minimal. If it does seem like it needs rebuilt tell that to the guy and try to lower the price, rebuilds arent that expensive. |

Do you know roughly how much a rebuild on the turbo is, also it says non wastegated? I'm thinking I would want a waste gate as I enjoy driving in the lower RPM's? If this is this something you can change, add a waste gate?
Thanks Del |

A standard rebuild is about $100 in parts, if you have someone do it add in labor. A complete center section is about $300

The hypermax is a good kit and easy to get parts for, I would buy it. Non gated turbos gave there advantages as well, like less back pressure so lower EGTs. Great for towing as well.

When I asked what kind of shape the kit was in the guy told me the pedestal is cracked, I'm guessing it's some sort of cast and probably shouldn't be welded up? Makes sense why it was a good deal, I'm not giving up just making sure I get it for the right price.
If it's been removed and sitting for awhile would you get new couplers etc? |

Del, A good local welder should either be able to weld it or gab you a new one that most likely would be improved over the broken one. Don't let the pedestal scare you, just kick him in the knee and let him know it is a near deal breaker to get him down on the price.
