89 7.3 IDI question

Hey guys, been lurking here for a while, finally came up with a question I couldnt find an answer to.

Im looking at buying an '89 7.3 IDI this weekend. I havent had a chance to go see it yet, but the owner says the only problem he has with it is when he is de-celerating (sp?), the truck will sometimes shut off. Not everytime, and not at any certain speed/rpm's. Anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this?

prob just needs the fuel filter changed i had that problem when i was low on cash to change it out
