Does Not Rev

I just prchased a 1989 Intl Box Truck (28' U-Haul) I run a land speed bike at Bonneville and El Mirage CA. I purchased the truck because I am tired of dragging a 44' trailer and was hoping to set this up as a race rig.

There is just one problem it has the 7.3 non-turbo motor and is a dog it will not rev there is no tack but all i can get is 40 mph in 4th gear and 57mph in 5th gear does anybody know if these were governed or how to get some more RPM out of if for a a little more power.

International trucks were governed at 2800rpms. If you put a pump off of a f series truck they would turn between 3300 and 3800 rpms, sounds like the tranny is a non overdrive unit.

Have you verified with a GPS to ensure that the speedometer is accurate?

What rear end ratio does it have? That plays into it. Also, non turbo IDI's aren't powerhouses but they will get it there.....just not fast....
