Sludge Cause a no start?

Have a 1990 f250 7.3l idi when first purchased had about a gallon of water in first oil change im 3 oil changes down and still have lots of SLUdge, my question is i almost had it to fire with ether but with all this sludge in oil could this cause a no start? And whats the best way to flush all this sludge out without spending 80.00 each oil change
