I'm debating on buying a 91 F350 IDI and I have a 94 IDI Turbo truck for parts. My question in proceeding with the swap is "is it worth it?" I've been around Ford diesels all my life and know that the swap is relativly simple. I have read that the factory ATS setup was "de-tuned" per Ford because they didnt want the diesel to out perform the 460 and the results were only a 3% increase in power. With that being said would I be better of financialy to swap in the old or buy an aftermarket setup? Thanks in advance.

I also wondered this myself.

you wont get huge boost numbers with the factory turbo... I get max of 7psi... If I do the na to turbo swap again... I will pony up the extra bucks for a Banks or ATS (non factory) package... An inner-cooler would help with exhaust temps that will come with this swap. Personally I'm leaning towards a 12v swap...

There is an ATS upgrade to the exhaust piece...hmmm brain deadcant think of the technical name and downpipe that brings performance up quite a bit.
especially if youalready have the ats turbo in stock form.... save you lots of money.. |

I didnt drive the truck without the turbo outlet housing and downpipe upgrade, but I would hate to drive it that way... I dont see a huge gain in HP, after the install. I did see how ford / ats mashed the stock downpipe where it drops behind the cylinder head... pretty restrictive.
