94 idi turbo diesel removing muffler...??

I got a 94 idi turbo diesel......Im thinking about taking the muffler off of it and making the exaust come out in front of the rear wheels.....Will the removal of the muffler give me a little more power, mpgs, and noise? Removal wont hurt anything correct?

does it have a turbo? Gonna need some backpressure in the exhaoust. The trubo should be suffeciant, but if it dosent have one.........muffler needs to stay put. IIRC

straight piping a idi is wicked sweet and is better than a psd straight piping. will help drop the egts down some, and might see more mpgs but dont count on it. thats about it. we have a 88 idi thats "straight piped" but has a glasspack looking deal on it.

i know someone who has a modedish 94/93 idi. his member name is RadarRider

My idi did not have a muffler on it when i got the truck, it was 2 1/2" all the way back. I found it a little rappy so i went 3" and it made it sound deeper. I have also run dual 5" stacks strait pipe, and that was just really loud. then i went 3" to 4" out the side before the tire and this was my fav, it sounded real nice and deep and not to loud. With the side exit i ran a 4" straight dynomax muffler.

If its turbo'ed, Take it off. If its N/A leave it on and get another muffler, would be WAY to loud without one. Tickets would ensue.

With the stock downpipe on the turbo version, it wont be to loud though. Those downpipes are no good.

I replaced my muffler with straight pipe on my 94 idi non turbo, i also have a resonated exhaust tip. It is not that loud at all inside the cab with windows up at any rpm. With the windows down anything about 2500 rpms sounds pretty loud and "rappy".
Overall i think it sounds great and i didnt notice a loss of torque from the loss of backpressure.
