WIRING??!?!?!?!?!

Alrighty...89 f250 7.3L 4wd...got a few questions on wiring...When i hit the brakes, all my running lights illuminate...with the head lights on and i hit the brakes, you can barely see my brake lights. Now someone before me has installed a gauge pod for oil pressure and water temp and has also installed a toggle that controls the running lights. With winter coming on I dont want to dive into it too deep and disable it but I was wondering if someone had any clue of easy things to check that wouldnt make me get to deep into it. This truck has lots of connections undone underneath the truck but none of them look to be tied into the light circuit. Any help would be helpful. I got the truck for a winter/toy/farm truck and was planning on going through it next summer but the lights are a main issue that needs to be fixed...thanks
