OD lights blinks

hi, i have an '01 f250 4x4 with an automatic, when the truck is cold it shifts fine, but when i get on the highway, it will not shift into overdrive, when i hit the OD button, i can feel the trans lock up a little bit, and when i hit it again, it feels like the TC unlocks, but it does not shift into 4th gear, then after about 5 mins or so the OD button starts to blink and will so until i shut the truck down. any one else have this problem, or know what it may be? any help would be much appreciated. thank you

if your OD light blinks....you need to pull the code before we can really be of any assistance......sounds like there is a good chance your having a torque converter or part related to it issue....but its tough to tell without the code....then we can give you some things to look for......
