hard shifting

i have an 01 f350 4x4 with 15300 miles on it. the tag on the tranny says it is a ford reman.
i do not know the mileage on that as it was in the truck when i bought it. the tranny will shift very hard cold or hot it does it in all shifts but almost always in 2-3 shift
i was wondering if i could run some kind of test on it. it is not giving any codes
thanks Frank

Frank, that diode is right inside the trans, I don't know enough about the trans to really offer an opinion on your problem, but good luck with it. Do you have a chip or programmer in it?

Gord.

i have had an edge evolution, i only run it on tow, installed on it but it made the shifts even harder so i gave it back to guy who lent it to me....can the diode be reached just by removing the pan or is deeper inside the tranny

Hey Frank, has it shifted hard since you bought it? If so I'm thinking that when the reman was installed, they probably put a shift kit in it, and the trans is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. If the shift is soft, it is slipping into gear. When it is harder, the trans is not slipping, therefor less heat build up, less wear etc. Lots of guys want to put in the kits to make it shift harder. A good shop, or someone who knows the 4r100 will be able to tell with the pan off. Hope that helps Frank.

Gord.

By the way Frank, with the reman in it, they may have eliminated the diode problem, with an upgraded trans.

""can the diode be reached just by removing the pan or is deeper inside the tranny""

The "diode" is simply a one way clutch, it is inside the trans and not your problem.
Proper diagnosis would be to install a 300 lb pressure guage at the mainline port in front of the neutral switch and see if the trans is produceing high line. If it is ,then you have to figure out why. If line is not high, then it probably has a"shift kit
in it.
Ford never puts "shift kits" in their transmissions, but someone else may have. This can only be determined by removeing the pan and some valve body components.

the tranny shifted fine for some time after i got the truck, then it started to shift to soon from 1 to 2 almost stalling the truck. it would then slam back into gear. so i put a new filter and fluid in it. it is not as bad but still shifts very hard and sometimes to soon.
i do want to say thank you for all the input and help--Frank
