new tranny or upgrade?

k so ive noticed that my tranny was leaking oil for about a month now... i hadnt had time to take it in to get it checked out.... i finnaly did it today and the guy(without unbolting anything) told me that its most likely my torque converter and that there 2 other leaks toward the back near the transfer case.... said if i wanted to rebuild my tranny with nothing but heavy duty stuff.. like ats ... it would cost me 4k installed including parts.... now 4,000.00 sounds like a whole lot for me... he said it would be a 2 year unlimited mile warranty.... anyone have an upgraded tranny and can tell me if this is around the price it should be? another option is maybe just change the torque converter and hope that my tranny doesnt go out.... so im up for opinions on what i should do.... if i decide to go with the new upgraded tranny ill have to sell my jeep to do it......

Have you noticed any other symptoms other than the leak? Sounds like
a pretty quick decision to tell you that its out. Usually they hook it up
and drive it tell. As far as cost my old cummins cost me 2k but that was
a stock rebuild without any upgrades. That why I traded for Power Stroke. I think I would get a second opinion, my two cent.

yup he drove it...forgot to put that in it... i was in the cab with him... the truck had been shifting really slow for a few months now and under a load it was even worse... if i punch it too itll take a few seconds to shift and then it shifts really hard to the point that it feels like its gonna break something....

Ya, bring it to me. For that price, I can build you one that will hold anything you can put to it and give a 5year 50,000 mile warranty.

Price sounds a little high. What is he referring to when he says upgraded parts? Find all that out first. Then make your decision. He may just replace the clutches, where others may replace clutches and steels. And still another guy may go as far as to replace all hard parts(springs, valve body parts, front pump mods, etc). You need to know what "upgraded parts" he is talking about.

no matter what im gonna have to come up with at least 3grand just to fix the stocker so as soon as i come close to the kind of cash im gonna nead ill ask him exactly what all is going into it... he told me that almost everything will be changed and that it was a 2 yr unlimited mile warranty which is good because i drive around 30-40k a year.....
