After shift kit, trans wont shift?
Yesterday my friend and i installed Superior Transmission shift correction package. We only added the springs to the valve body and skipped the rest, the kit also included bits to increase the lubrication to the TC but we skipped doing that beause the TC had to be removed. After putting everything back together and adding 15 quarts, the trans goes to redline and wont shift unless i take my foot off the gas for a sec. At times it seems to shift fine and when it does the shifts are very firm compared to before, but something obviously isn't right. Could too much or too little fluid cause this. The stick reads full but it was doing that from 12 quarts up and i know 12 wasn't full becasue we drained the tc and what was in the valve body as well and the system holds 18 according to the manual. Somebody please help me.

Im certain i put the shift kit together correctly however, it has 2 settings, light (stock) Tow/performance, and then heavy duty/extreme, I went with heavy duty extreme. Do you think its possible because i didn't drill the holes that theres not enough pressure able to build? The spring i changed was very stiff compared to the stock one to make it extreme. -Thanks |

Sounds to me it is shifting like you sat it up to do.(the trans goes to redline and wont shift unless i take my foot off the gas for a sec.) That's what a shift kit does.(I went with heavy duty extreme.) Check to make sure you have the right amount of oil in it and the right kind. Then be happy because it sounds like you are getting what you ask it to do. |

wd40. This type of shift kit does not change when it changes, only how it changes. You'll still have to go back into the valve body. There are 4 valve bodies on this trans, the front one is probably what you're referring to. There are 3 accumulator shift valves and 1 line boost valve. You've probably got one of the accumulator shift valves stuck. "didn't drill the holes". Which holes are you referring to? The one in the pump is for a firmer tcc apply. That will not cause your problem. Were there some you were supposed to drill in the plate under the v/body, or in the v/body? |

I think if you drilled the holes in the plate between the valve body and the trans, it would work fine. You are most likely correct, you dont have enough fluid preasure to push that heavy spring.
We just completely rebuilt Larry's trans last week. That valve body is a touchy part of the system. We "miss placed" (so larry claims) one of the tiny check balls, and his trany was shifting hard, but missing 3rd gear all together. Maybe you should have just went with the Sonnex valve...not as involved. |
