99 F250 7.3 blows Tranny fluid under a strain

I am see instances when the truck is at high rpm's 1500 - 2000 for say a couple of minutes that transmisson fluid will puddle under the truck. Do these trucks have some kind of slobber hose or pressure relief system that allows this to happen? Is it normal? Trany seems strong just have add the fluid it spilled out and your good to go? Just interested if anyone else has this issue.
Thanks

Chris

there is an overflow tube on the tranny, but if its blowing out that, you have serious issues, as the only reason it will blow out there is if the trans is overheating. the most common major leak on these is the seal for the torque converter, and a lot of times it will leak bad under heavy engine rpm, as this is when the front pump that the torque converter goes into, builds the most pressure. take the inspection plate off of the bottom of the bellhousing (do not use a 10MM socket, the bolts will strip, they are 3/8). there are two bolts at the bottom, two bolts on the upper drivers side, and one on the upper passanger side just above and inside the starter (sometiems this bolt is missing, a lot of techs will leave it off if it has previously been removed, it doesnt hurt anything to leave it off and its a pain to get to, be carefull not to arc the starter wire). after the cover is off, look for a lot of fluid in the bellhousing. if it is there, the torque converter seal is leaking.

Thanks MSC

Thanks MSC that sounds exactly correct because it wasn't too long ago that the Ford place replaced the tranny. Long enough to be out of warranty but what your telling me sounds like I need to take it back by to them and have them look at it again. Thanks for the info. On the Tranny cooler there is an inline filter that I have just noticed, and also have never changed. I was wondering if this may be part of the problem? The truck leaks in the middle a little toward the front of the vehical by the way.

that in line filter is something the dealer added when they replaced the trans. it is manditory to install one when a trans is replaced, or no repair on it under the warranty provided after its replacement is warrantied by ford if they can prove the filter was not installed. if the fluid is leaking from the center of the vehicle, it is probably not lines, as lines would leak from the right side of the vehicle untill the front of the vehicle, then they could leak from the right side or anywere in the center of the vehicle. as far as it being out of warranty, if the dealer is not willing to work with you and you will have to eat the costs of the repair, pay your diag, and figure out who does "built" trannies in your area and take it to them. your truck has a 4r100(e4od) trannie in it, and there are a lot of companies out there that will put a better aftermarket torque converter in it, along with stronger clutch packs in the guts, so if you have to pay the money, have it done by someone who builds a better unit.

Thanks MSC

Thanks MSC. I really appreciate all your advise. I'm going to have somebody look into it. That would explain why I couldn't find the part at the part store by giving the part # off the filter.

Much Apprecitated..

Tranny leak

Watchout for this one! Mine caught fire! Luckly I had a fire extingusher to put it out! Had it towed to the Ford dealer for repair. Cost 4,000 dollars to fix. New Tranny & Converter! Still didn't get it right! They had to do it again! Lucky for insurance!!! Just as the other guy said they told me it was the seals in the converter when they got hot it leaked like crazy. In any case carry a fire extiquisher, trans fluid burns like hot greese and is hard to put out.

That filter in the cooler line should be replaced every time the trans is serviced. Most all trans shops have them in stock. There's one for 5/16 line and one for 3.8 line.
the leak from the front is probably a grey seal. No grey seals. No grey seals. No grey seals. Blue or black only. Preston
