Trans

Well, been a few days since I was on here, but I have a horrible good excuse...

Saturday I was delivering seed corn, and the trans lost 2nd gear, not all the way, just slipping. I wasn't even pulling a trailer, had 20 bags in the bed...

Took it to the dealer, getting a remann 4R100 from Jasper, 3 year/ 75,000 mi warranty, no questions asked.

Total bill $3100.

Owner of the dealership and Tech both said it wasn't from the programer. One of the sensors, that had some sort of check valve or something failed blocking oil flow which burnt out the middle clutch pack.

Anyways, leaving in an hour to go pick it up, they loaned me a 2002 superduty to drive back to school and back, pretty nice of them without a doubt. guy before me got a brown crown vic.

Any thoughts on maintaining this one, or modding to live long and shift hard?

well....since the rule of thumb is every 30k.....you may want to consider servicing the new one every 20k......just for peace of mind if nothing else, your fluid can never be too good......and as far as the rest of it goes......firming up shifts actually helps the trannie by decreasing slippage.....so as long as ya dont go overboard with line pressures.....you actually are helping it with a mild bump in line pressures.........

and on a side note......glad ya figured out your trans problem man....just sorry it cost so much and that it ended up being internal.....and sorry i dont know a little more about trannies so i could have helped ya when ya first brought it up........but it sounds like the damage was already done anyway....you may have prolonged it, but if the clutches were fried....they would have gone eventually.........Marc

So did you have to pay the bill??? If so you should have gotten up about another 800 smackers and got a built trans from Brians Truck Shop. I know if its allready done kinda late.

well, I wanted to go with an ATS, but they talked me out of it for more than one reason. I get all my work done at this dealer, my fam immediate fam has bought several vehicles from them, and I am in a pinch. They were willing to do the installation, but warned me if something went wrong, or if it didn't work right, that I would have to pay labor to take it out again. With the one they got me, they cover everything for 3 years/75000 miles including labor. I had the same remann in my first truck a '93 reg cab with the 460.

I can't complain, they gave me another super to drive while mine was in the shop. Darn fuel tank was empty tho

They have treated me right, it may not be a performance trans, but it will be better than what I had when I dropped it off I am sure!

You wil not have to pay labor to remove it. Jasper pays it. You may have to pay for fluid. Preston ps I change mine every 25,000.. Make it easy to remember, 25, 50 75 100.
