Fuel Smell

Have a fuel smell in the cab of my 97 F350, any ideas on where to start looking????

Try Looking At The Injector Pump They Like To Leak There. The Seal Goes Bad Sometimes.

we had a strong diesel smell in our truck too....there is apparently a "water/fuel seperator" that might need to be replaced. We replaced ours and it took care of the smell. Good luck!

I had the fuel filter come loose and leak fuel. Some got splattered on the hood and in the insulation material and it smells pretty bad after I drive for a while. When sitting overnight there is no smell when I first open it up.

Is there any type of product that will neutralize the smell? I imagine as it gets warmer it is infiltrating inside and I have a 3000 mile trip to make in a few weeks and this would make the trip seem long and very unpleasant.

engine de-greaser and a pressure washer at a car wash would be my reccomendation.........

Sounds like the best way.

Would this be any different than doing a car? I assume have it running and lightly go over the engine to wash off the Gunk?

you can blast the heck out of it, just dont spray directly intot he air intake. there are not plugs or wires to foul on a diesel, so there is really nothing to hurt, but yes, i would keep it running

Have it running? A diesel is not the same as a gasoline motor in the fact if the motor is hot and you spray cold water on the heads you take a chance of cracking them?

ive blown off and seen blown off more motors than i can count, and all of them were running. common sense says you dont spray the exhaust manifolds and such with direct water, but the fact that it is running does not make a difference, in fact, the head will be slightly hotter right after shut down so it would have a higher chance of damage.

Ok. Thanks. I guess it is just kinda one of those old wise tails then. I have just always followed that rule and made sure the motor was cold before spraying it. I have never known anyone to do it while running but now you have confirmed it is ok so I now feel I have the option to spray it while running. I also wanted to add that Castrol Degreaser in the purple bottle is awesome at cleaning grease and oil off of a motor. I mean this stuff is great.
