sensor or wastegate problem??????help

ok i have a 2000 psd 180000 miles just replaced the cps about 10,000 miles ago ran great until i tried leaving the house without letting it warm up died about 1/2 mile down the road. would not restart cranked motor steady for about 15 to20 secs held gas pedal to the floor, and i felt it kinda kick finally it started had to hold rev at 2500 rpm sometimes revving it more to keep it running.blowing smoke like a freight train... finally engine warmed up and ran beautifully... so i started letting it warm up before i drove it not having a problem.. was trying to trouble shoot it today and noticed something else odd if you cruise down the road at about 2500 rpm even if it is plenty warmed upthe engine seems to hesitate then if you push the clutch in it will die and same thing all over again not starting unless you hold the gas to the floor.. seems like its when the turbo kicks in it loads the engine up.. I have no clue? the dealer mentioned it could be a exhaust backpressure sensor.. someone else told me that the wastegate might not be opening.. I know alot about gas engines but am dumb to a diesel engine or sensor problems Please Help...

If you look at your turbo you will see the wastegate control on the top of the turbo, If you look under the turbo you will see a lever which has a control rod on it, it is the warmup valve that comes on when the engine is cold, it restricks the exhaust to warm up the engine faster. If it is staying on it will kill the engine and make it smoke like mad. You can disconnect it by sliding the clip down the rod and pulling off the rod, you need to wire the valve open as it is free to flop around in the exhaust elbow. Look at it when it is cold and then ck when hot, see if it is moveing. Good luck Mike

who would have ever of thought.. that changing the oil could solve so many bewildering problems...i was researching the internet on sensor problems and saw an article on oil viscosity. and how it could dampen a sensors capability.. so i figured i'd give it a try.. like i said before my beloved truck was running like CRAP...I run shell rotella oil and was told by a truck driver that shell is the way to go because it doesnt break down until at least 10000 miles. which is uncalled for for me to wait that long. but since daddy bush has screwed up the diesel gas prices so bad my truck has gotten driven only on saturday (raceday).. for the last year and a half. so i didn't really change bother to change the oil.. So anyhow i got an extra 40 bucks and changed the oil.. started my truck let it warm up like usual, and then drove it down the road, unbelievable it didn;'t die at the end of the road, and it had all of its power back again, no lagging acceleration.. nothing it was running great..I couldn't believe it. so i figured i'd get up first thing this morning and start it and go when it's cold.. this is where it was guaranteed to die half way down the road.. and guess what? nothing it runs great.. I am astonished..MORAL OF THE STORY (CHANGE YOUR OIL AT 5000 MILES) at the most.. take it from me i am amazed

i was having the same problem so i wired my warm up valve towards the passenger side of the truck and i lost all power and boost. so i wired it he other way towards the driver side and it was fine. so i replaced my exhaust back pressure sensor and hooked the linkage back up, it seemed to help a little but it still opens while driving down the road no matter how long the truck has been running.
