I would agree with the above post -- it's most likely the CPS (Cam Position Sensor). Mine died at 85,000 miles on my 7.3L PSD. This is a warranty item and when it goes bad, it doesn't always throw an error code. I had to suggest this as being the problem when the dealer didn't find anything after initial troubleshooting. When mine died, I was driving down the road and the engine cut out. It wouldn't start...hours later, after getting towed to the dealership, it started and ran fine for 30 minutes. Ford, not being able to find anything wrong with it, sent me home. I knew that it'd happen again, so I drove around for about 10 minutes and it died again. There is no rhyme or reason as to when/why the CPS fails -- nothing I did indicated a pattern that I could avoid to prevent the engine from dying. Good luck. |

do these things gradually go out? My truck has a remote start on it, once in a while, when I start it with the remote, it will just die after a minute or two. then this weekend, I had it in the shop working on it, started it up, and it just died again. I am assuming its the CAM sensor, but anyone got any suggestions.

I would suspect your remote start if it's only dying after you remote start it. If it happens by just using the key, then I would suspect the CPS. Otherwise I'd suspect the remote start is not detecting the engine is running and kills the signal -- does your remote start then try to start the vehicle again?
Regarding warranty replacement -- only the dealer can perform work under warranty. You would have to go in and pay the $100 deductible. |
