ANY thoughts....major OIL drop

Hey there guys....

I have a 2000 f350 PS, driving it to work today, suddenly lost power and smoke started pouring out of the engine compartment. Pulled over and there was oil everywhere!! I checked the crankcase and it was empty. the oil was everywhere.

In any case it was just towed to the service station. I hate that I am not working on this, but I usually do not have all the tools needed to work on the engine.

ANY thoughts on what could have happened. I have had some people say the turbo went. Some say the oil pump....not sure where to begin besides giving the engine and the rest of the truck a bath.

Thanks for the help!!

fill the crankcase back up and have someone crank the motor while you watch. Odds are your leak is from the high pressure oil pump, and it is just a matter of where on the pump is leaking. Its not real common, but occasionally we see one that blows the snap ring out of the back of the pump and causes just what you described...it would be worth checking.

HPOP Line....that was it

Well guys it was a HPOP line that sprung a leak.

I had the line replaced and it appears that things are working ok... The truck doesn't start as easy as it did before. I am assuming that air got into the line somewhere.

Anyone know if this will go away, or will it continue to be hard to start now?

Thanks again!
