Chip up performance shorten engine life?? Rumoured better 1-2 mpg better?

Hello from Oz,
About a dozen of our Blokes have run the SuperChips MicroTuner and claim better fuel economy towing with it on Stage I... (Stage II and III definitely not for towing).. Any news on better fuel economy chipping them up in America? They are reporting enhanced performance as well, and figures for trips in the thousands of kms, with a noted fuel economy increase equaling about 1-2 mpg.. Towing with an off-road Caravan (live in 4x4 trailer to you folkes) weighing on average 2500-3000 kg loaded. Now that kind of fuel economy increase pays for the Chip up in only about 20,000 kms. Do you think it or would it shorten engine life? Or is it just by passing by some emission controls to free up the engine?

Thanks in advance, from Down Under, da Lone Ranger in Oz...

i dont think that you are shortening the engine life at all by running the truck in an appropriate way with that chip....escpecially if its on stage 1.....basicaly yes......they are just changing a little computer stratagy to allow the motor to run a little stronger AND more efficiently.......i think you will be just fine with your motor longevity with the superchips programmer.........Marc
