Cool steering problems

Steering wheel is hard to turn at times. When at a stop. I replaced steering pump and it did not help. Any input on this problem? T:whistle: hanks

Pretty common problem, I've researched it thinking something was majorly wrong with my truck BUT some trucks had it off the dealership lot. Mine does it when I first start it in the cold mornings when not moving. I just make sure I move before I turn the wheel! I choose to just live with it, since it doesn't affect me really.

Marc will be on and he can probably help you.

If you are on the brakes hard, the geometry of these spindles in respect to where the ball joints mount makes it hard to turn the wheels while sitting still or moving really slowly. Instead of the tires just being stationary and twisting when u turn the wheel, they actually roll forward and back a lil when u turn the wheel and if you arent moving and the brakes are applied, it opposes the turning of the tire.

I had to figure this out on my own, as I too wondered why it was difficult but realised the brakes were doing it after a lil trial and error testing. If it is still hard and your not on the brake(ie in park) then its something else. Just my .02

steering problems

my next step is to replace the steering box.It does not matter if I have my foot on the brake or not and this steering problem happens about 75% of the time.

it is a pretty common problem with the extra weight of the diesel engine, but it seems your's is more extreme. I don't believe that I could just live with it either if it happens 75% of the time.

hopefully you find out what the problem is.

I can tell you this much, mine never acted that bad when I had my 39.5 Swampers on my truck.

I hope you find out what it is. My 01 4x4 does it also. It acts like it switches from power to manual steering. Preston
