Rear End Popping

I started the truck up today (its 7* with windchill) and let it warm up. I put it into reverse and and it made a pop sound from the rearend after maybe a full revolution of the tires and then another little one soon after. Its done it a couple times before but now I am starting to worry. I need to get my rear diff oil/fluid changed, so could that be it?

Thanks for any help guys and gals
AJ

When you have the cover pulled to change the oil have them look everything over reall good and see if maybe you dont have something in there causing the popping sound.

could just be iced over and the pop is the ice breaking loose, mine does that sometimes when its real cold out.

Check your U-Joints.. I had this happen to me several times. Put your truck in Neutral on level ground (Set E-brake or Chock tires). Crawl under and twist your drive shaft back and forth to see if you have any slack between the U-joints and the Yokes.

This is most likely your problem. The backlash being out is highly unlikely unless you have had the rearend re-geared. good luck with this.

how cold has it been?? it was really cold here with lots of snow too that really built up underneath my truck. i never had any issue with it causing a popping noise.
