Clutch problems
Well guys I haven't posted in a long time but now i'm having a few minor problems. First my 2003 f-250 7.3PS with 6speed manual wouldn't start on a camping trip in the middle of nowhere...finally got it started and took it to ford. I'm still under the 100,000 mile engine warranty so they put in a glow plug relay for the $100 deductable. So now i pick my truck up and have a new problem. While stopped with the clutch in and the truck in gear, the clutch will slowly release without me releasing the pedal at all. It releases to the point where I can't get it out of gear and it chokes down. It drives and shifts fine once i am moving. It also does fine if i leave it in neutral at the lights and then push in the clutch and put it in gear and take off right away. So heres the question, first, is it covered under the 100,000 mile warranty. Second, i'm thinking that the clutch hydraulic cylinder is going or there is air in the lines, but i can't figure out how air would have gotten in the lines and there is not fluid leaking anywhere. So what do you guys think and if it is the clutch cylinder how hard is it to replace and get bled on a superduty.
Thanks for the help, Scotty |

your answer is simple....it is the clutch master or slave going out. it is bleeding by.....but the nice part is this.... If you go to ford, you can buy a clutch master/slave assembly that is pre bled and filled with fluid....Ready to go. The only othter thing you need is the rod that attatches to the pedal, because its a (*&^*&^&*&^*(%&^ to get out of the master your taking off....so get the slave master assembly, a new clutch rod, and install it. YOu simply twist the master about 90 degrees to the firewall and it comes out after you pop the rod off the pedal...then push and twist the slave out of the tranny counter clockwise....pull the old one out, rout the new one in, and reverse of the above and its fixed..... Only note is this...put the new rod on the pedal....aligned with the new master but not pushed in....then press the pedal down to install the rod...thats the easiest way to do it......you also have to take the clutch pedal switch off the rod...which is pretty strait foreward...if you look at it with a flashlight you will see the tabs that hold the plastic piece in place that keeps it on the rod... |

Thanks
Thanks Marc, You guys are great. spent $200 dollars on the assembly and went to install it. Everything went great until i got to the rod on the pedal and just like you said....frozen in the master. Well finally got a new clutch rod and put it all together, works better than new. Thanks again for all the help. I'll be posting here anytime i have a problem. Thanks again, Scotty |
