Ok; after approx. 5hrs back in service from what appeared/seemed to be ICP failure my truck has left me stranded AGAIN.
Last time this happened the ICP sensor on the pass. VC was replaced and it had more power and ran smoother. All seemed well; the truck has run approx. 5-7hrs (3-4 hrs at a time without stopping) without issue until last night.
Same symptoms but I have a code this time. P0148 I know this is a 'fuel delivery error' (no kidding huh!).
NO SES or CEL lamp; no crank or cam sensor codes (but I'm using a cheap readout tool).
Unplugged AND replaced ICP again; to no avail.
What happens: You'll be running along; truck will "cut" fuel for just a split second to the point that you question it was just a bump in the road. Approx. 6secs later it goes into a hunting/surging gyration and starts cutting out more and more. I pull over and it lopes at idle, place it in neutral and it goes FULL RICH and starts to run away; just ROLLING coal black smoke. I kill the key; it stops.
Once stopped; truck will NOT refire until cooled down. Will spin/crank but not run or even try to hit.
When key is turned to "ON' position; all bulbs check; Glow plug lamp comes on, the drivers run too long and the lamp remains on. (This is right after its "died"). Upon cool down (approx 1.5-2hrs) if you cycle the key three times (on-off-on-off-ON) on the third ON sequence the Glow plug lamp will illuminate normally and go off (as it should in warm weather). The truck will start and run normally.
Last night that start and run was only good for Two miles; just enough to get it off the side of the road and into a parking lot. It is VERY accurate in its repetition sequence of how it dies. After the 2mile jaunt last night it did the exact same sequence before I had to cut it off in the parking lot.
Noone seems to have any answers at this point. Other than checking the FICMM harness and PCM connections; it appears that I will be going to the dealer. I spoke with the tech today and he stated that he'd never heard or had one do this so he's lost at this point as well.
The truck has 14k miles; has had oil changes at 3k miles or less with Motorcraft filters; never had a trailer behind it or a load in the bed. Fuel filters replaced at approx. 4k miles with Motorcraft units as well. Running name brand diesel from a clean station with the Motorcraft/Stanadyne Cetane booster.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
