I had my F350 in for this "clunk" last week. They kept it all week and then gave me a copy of a TSB that says it is "normal - do not try to repair". Sounds like it is going to come apart sometimes.
Seems to be way too much gear lash in the rear differential to me. I bet it comes apart before 36,000 miles, even if it gets a little help to do it........
