Automotive Tires on a trailer?
Question for all you experts out there:
I have a boat trailer with rapidly disintegrating tires (the valve stems on both tires on one side have blown completely out, and the others aren't holding air), and I need to replace them ASAP. I'm down in Fourchon, LA, which is basically the end of the world and the only place to change tires is at the Walmart about 40 minutes up the road. Is it ok to put automotive grade tires on the boat trailer? The size is 205/75-14, and the boat does not move often at all. In fact, it only goes about 30 yards to the launch once or twice every week, and the rest of the time it sits underneath the camp on the trailer. For this application, and since Walmart only seems to stock auto tires, would this be an OK solution? I would think that an auto tire is rated for higher poundage than a trailer tire, especially for a boat that only weighs about 2500 lbs dry.
Lets hope it works...
