1984 help?

i have a buddy thats looking at a 84 4x4 6.9 with engine problems, needs a rebuild. What would he be expecting to pay for a new motor, rebuilt, or doing a rebuild himself? The owner wants 600 for the truck. So if its not to much he wants it.

if it's 7.3 PSD, you're looking at least $5k just to start. and i think that's a little on the conservative side.

it's still gonna be about that much. former roommate of mine blew up his 6.9 IDI a couple years back and checked out how much for a new motor. it was gonna be about 5k including labor to swap everything out.

There were a few IDI 7.3's for sale in the D/FW area awhile back for 500-3K depending on used or rebuilt.

I would upgrade to the 7.3 IDI.

EDIT: Or cummins.
