Looking at getting a 6.9 IDI

Hey there everybody. New to the Ford side. I'm from PA but am currently in Ohio going to school for diesels. My DD has been a Dodge 24V but finally blew the head gasket on it so I'm on the search for a DD so I can park this thing and pull the head off. I'm currently looking at 2 differen't trucks. Both are 1985's. The first is a 2wd auto F350 dually. It's in beautiful shape for the age. Has 97k on the odometer. I'm assuming the auto is a C6?? The second is an F250 4spd 4wd. It has around 170k on the clock and needs a little TLC, like fuel gauge doesn't work, needs a rear fuel tank and a tail light. Really leaning towards the F250 cause I really want something 4x4. Anyways I guess what I'm asking is if there is anything I should look for. I'm fairly inclined when it comes to diesel's in general and a guru when it comes to the Cummins. Just looking to see what kind of querk's these old 6.9's had so I know what to look for. Thanks in advanced guys.

6.9's have no quirks I'm aware of. Not much resale either.

Thank's. Well I wasn't sure so I figured I'd ask and yes they don't have much of a resale value thus why I'm looking at a couple. Both the ones I'm looking at are priced under $2k. Just want to keep it diesel. I am in no way a real big fan of gas jobs.

That's the one I'm leaning towards and the one I will probably get if it doesn't sell by Monday as I can't get down there to look at it till then.

Well it's a done deal. I'll have her tomorrow It's fairly clean. Passenger side rear fender is rusted out and there's a big dent on the driver side in the rear top part of the bed but other than that she's in pretty good shape. Oh and the interior is pretty clean. Runs like a champ too.
