1984 6.9

About to pick up a 1984 F250 4x4 4 speed 6.9 diesel. Just wondering what I can do as far as mods go. I know I can do a turbo but thats a little expensive right now.

For cheap mods....hypermax exhaust + a little fab to get it to work (3.5" exhaust). Open up the intake somehow. Instal a pyro, and turn the pump up a little bit. Should be roughly $500-600 for everything mentioned above. You should be making a good 190 hp at the crank.

You can find used turbo's. It seems like recently a lot of people are selling them as they need the money, so they can be had failry cheap. Heck I saw somebody on another site post a craigslist add with a 7.3IDI engine with the turbo on it, for $450. Just gotta look.

im just taggin along with your post. i just bought an 84 6.9idi 2wd dually 2 days ago. As soon as i got it home I straight piped it with a 3in exiting before the rear wheels. Sounds good. Financially, i dont think i will be installing a turbo anytime soon. I plan on puttin a k&n in and runnin a tube off the air box out to the grille. Of course turn up the fuel and get some coal burnin but I am looking for some advice as to how i can make some good power and keep it reliable. This is an AT so i am wondering if i should consider a tranny flush.

Nitrous....kinda iffy.

I've only ever heard of one guy using it. He said if he engaged it at to low of an RPM the motor would actually cut out. I wouldnt try it. Propane is probably the most I would go.
