In the shop for an exhaust leak

Hey guys,

2013 F-350 CCLB purchased 11/2/13. It went back to the shop on the 12th for an exhaust leak. Tech followed TSB about tightening the EBP tube. Returned the truck to me that night and said it was fixed. I drove it again the 14th/15th and noted immediately the smell was there and no better. I put 150 miles on it to be sure and they picked the truck up last Monday 11/18/13 (their first availability). They've replaced the EBP tube now and noticed no change and have tried other ideas but they don't know what it is.

Some of the techs have started hinting that they think it may not be exhaust, but something else making the smell. I think that's a cop out and a ludicrous idea. It smells like exhaust outside the vehicle and inside the vehicle. The smell is not post-DPF, its pre-DPF (doesn't smell coming out of tailpipe).

Any idea what this might be? They're out of ideas and are going call ford hotline, pull the cab and start tinkering around.

mine has done it for awhile now. if its the same as mine is doing, it smells like sooty egr exhaust. and its not all the time.
If youve ever has the dreaded boost hose blow off, it smells just like whats coming out of there.
Havent found it yet, but it will stink up the inside of the truck if I dont roll the windows down.

Think I've got a similar leak. Smell it mostly at cruise speeds 50-70mph.
When was your truck built? mine is March of13.

Sounds like a bad torque wrench that month. I have an appointment next month for first oil change. Ill have them look specifically at the area they found on yours. Thanks a bunch.
