Cleaning Exhaust Filter= Lower MPG?

Just curious if anyone else notices the same problem. I have a 2012 F-250, everytime the light comes on "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" for the next 8-10 minutes my MPG goes down to about 12 instead of 18-20+ I noticed this when I had the cruise on about 60 mph and on a flat stretch of road for about 35 miles, so it was consistent in way driven. Is this common or just my truck? Curious what is going on

Nope not just your truck, to be expected. Dumps fuel into the filter to burn everything off is my understanding.

Delete the emissions equipment if you plan on keeping the truck and don't want your intake gummed up with soot 5/16" thick
