Hissing A/C "Problem"

So my truck and i have been getting some quality time together. It's been developing some kinda annoying traits (rear seat belts rattle if you don't have them turned just so, rides rougher than all get out, every once in a while it will slam into gear, the roof/ B-Pillar are just the correct dimensions to make mounting a wilson amplifier a pain in the ***, etc).

Anyways, on a longer trip i had in it, i spent a decent amount of time on the phone. So this was no music while talking on the Sync phone deal. But i was traveling at highway speed with the A/C and cruise control on, and i could notice in the background this kind of odd wheezing noise. It sounds a lot like an intake when a turbo starts spooling (with the windows up). Just a kind of air-rushing-through-a-restriction noise. However, it is pretty intermittent. It will make the noise for 5-10 seconds and quiet down for a minute or so. Now, because this was such a long drive, i had plenty of time to dick around and find out what was causing it. First, i checked to see if it was engine load related, no joy. Second, RPM related, nope. Third, speed related, nuh-uh. Then i killed the A/C and the noise went away. That's interesting... A/C blows cold and strong, no complaints from any of the HVAC systems whatsoever.

Like i said, I only notice it when the A/C is on and there's no music. Just about any background noise will drown it out (but you can barely hear it at highway speeds). It's not really a problem, just a minor little annoyance.

So I ask you, Powerstroke.org, do any of you have an asthmatic raccoon living in your dashboard?

I haven't noticed any noise from my A/C system but have noticed an additional "hissing" when I have the seat cooling turned on. Not too bad but noticeable when on the phone with no music playing. Hope you get it figured out brother.

There is a possibility that what you are hearing is the evaporation of freon in the evaporator every time the compressor cycles on/off, the sound of which is normally blocked out by the sound of the fan on a higher setting. But, if you have automatic climate control and it is keeping the fan on a low setting since the cabin is already at desired temp, you may be able to hear the freon evaporating when the compressor clicks on every now and then. I have experience this phenomenon many times in other cars.

Ya I have that too. Sounds like someone is breathing in and out real slow. Only when AC is on. I dont think it is a problem but it is kinda annoying when it is quiet in the cab.
