So second time I got a reduced power mode alarm first time I only had the DPF deleted egr was still in tact it happened while passing someone on the highway pull my small sled trailer with my sled on it. Didn't notice any power loss though drove it the 450kms home brought to the shop that did the DPF delete they were stumped it didn't have any codes? Just the reduced power mode warning. Left the truck with them for an hour they uninstalled the bully dog gt programmer and reinstalled and the warning went away. Now four months later about same friggen highway passing two vehicles no trailer only thing different is I wasn't pulling a trailer got the reduce power mode warning again then a short while later check engine light came on stopped check codes on the bully dog and I am sorry I forgot what it said exactly but something about coolant sensor? I reset the code with the bully dog programmer and the check engine light went away and didn't come back but the reduced power warning is still on but still don't notice any reduced power? Wondering if it could be a fuel issue as both times it happened I fueled up at the same place but four months apart? Any info would be good thanks
is the egr still there? there is an ect2 sensor on the cooler housing. check to make sure it's plugged in completey.
the exact code would help, as their are 2 ect sensors, one for each cooling system
EGR is deleted now the first time the warning came on it was still intact but unplugged the second time it is completely removed. **** I should have wrote the code down but I cleared it so fast
if you can get the cooler housing back, remove the ect sensor from it. it's the 2 pin sensor that sits next to the coolant outlets. plug it in and ziptie it out of the way. if you can't get ahold of the cooler, it's not that expensive from ford. i think around 40$ or less
The codes are key here. If they both occurred while passing, it could be high EGTs or low rail pressure. I know the low rail pressure will shut you down, but you can turn the truck off and an almost immediate restart will get you going. Haven't seen too many Bully Dog tuners on the 6.7s so I can't offer any advice on their tunes. Are you watching your EGTs? Probably something to monitor if you are pushing things that hard.
The first time I didn't have an egt probe installed the second time didn't notice them get too hot I have it set for defuel at 1350F also I had the coolant temp defuel set for 210F at the time lol it runs normally around 190-200f so I bumped that up to 250f don't know if the bully dog settings would make the truck throw codes?
I read on another site that the SCT tunes requires the ECT 2 sensor plugged in and relocated to the coolant system? I emailed bully dog and will call them tomorrow ask about this as well I used the sinister diesel EGR delete kit it doesn't have a ECT relocation spot?
yea that's the one. i only mentioned this because i had a customer come in after being deleted, was going into reduced engine power. no codes. only thing i saw out of the ordinary was that ect2 was reading -40. i had assumed that because ect2 is a monitor of the entire secondary cooling system, and not just egr cooling, that it could throw the REP. often, if the tune is programmed to have sensors removed, you should be seeing a false reading to fool the pcm. from what i've seen anyways. never did find out whether it resolved his issue though since he went back to where he got the delete done to try and get the sensor back. i'll ask the service manager tmrw, as he was a friend of his
When the code came up I do remember it saying something like coolant temp sensor 2 but can't remember the actual code ex: p1234 well I'll try that out tomorrow see what happens but I wonder if it needs to be in the coolant line or can it just be zap strapped away somewhere
On the diagnostic tool it's reading -40 just trying to get the sensor out of the EGR cooler and plug it in now I'll let you know the findings but we uninstalled the download and reinstalled so the reduced power mode is already gone but hope it doesn't come back and that was the fix
hmm it shouldn't default to -40. that would be crazy. if it were gonna default, it would be something closer to operating temp. something off there. maybe the sensor is kaput or connector pins/wiring
Again reduced engine power warning light on this time idling at a highway pullout approx 3 months after clearing it by uninstalling and reinstalling bully dog program with update this last time? No actual loss of power drove it pulling my holiday trailer up in the mountains no problem just the stupid warning for reduced engine power? Runs and idles fine I'm stumped might switch to sct and hope it's the bully dog? Any other suggestions ???!?!?!
Reviving this post. Previously reset DPF filter (even though not really there). It cleared the reduced engine power warning for awhile then came back no codes called bully dog they gave me a new file to install installed it and cleared it again until last night driving home on the highway. This morning i checked for codes and there was a P012F code which from what I found online is the differential temps between the coolant and oil temps are within anywhere between 5-10F but I honestly didn't see what they were when it initially came on? No actual loss in power again
