On Star

Ordered a F350 Platinum. Does Ford offer any type of system similar to the On Star System?

I'm pretty sure the sync system functions similarly.

Just re-read the Sync system. It is a voice reconition for phone, radio and etc. However I cannot find anything regarding similar to on star features, like making calls.

Not from Ford but GM. It's called Onstar FMV. You can get it through Best Buy or other retailers. Google onstar fmv and see lots of results. You can get onstar for any vehicle, your '31 Model A, Maybe with a 12 volt system?!!?

I have seen this advertized and forgot all about it. Thanks for the reminder, I have had GMCs with On Star and it works great out here in the middle of our mtns.
Can anyone share how the aftermarket quality is with the FMV, I see the On Star mirror comes with the package?

Just a side note, kind of amusing.
On the Corvette forums, there are countless people trying to disable or remove onstar altogether, talking about nanny state, being tracked, onstar records being admissible in a court of law, not liking the idea of someone else being able to control the car....and so on.

We want what dont have, but don't want what we have?

I liked it, wish ford had it.

I don't mind saying I am a conservative traditionalist from way back. That said I have been out in the boondocks more than once with no cell service and On Star came through.

On Star

On star runs off the Verizon cellular network so it is prone to dead zones just like a phone. I assume the vehicle mounted on star antenna is able to pick up a signal easier than your phone. I would look into a cell antenna vs on star. If they are able to pick up a signal out in the sticks so should you. Just some food for thought

Yes I agree On Star relys on wireless cellular service. However an example, I was at Cottonwood Pass two weeks ago when we got back to the truck I had to make an emergency call we had 3 cell phones, after standing on top of the truck and various others methods to try and receive cell signal, On Star was clear as a bell. We had two Vz phones and one AT&T phone.

Agree, much better cell coverage. On top of that I can start my suburban from my phone.
