Tachometer temporarely quit working

I was driving down the road today, take a glance at my tach and nothing. I hit the throttle and the needle barely came up and when it did it was bouncing. I pulled over shut it down and restarted the engine and now it works. It was the weirdest thing.

Do you guys think it's a loose connection or just a quirk that these trucks have occasionally? I hate to take it to the dealer to have the dash ripped all to hell.
