If you have a smart phone and are interested in weather, the best I have found with live radar is My-Cast.

It is free on the net and what I use all the time for weather. On the Droid I think it was 3-4 bucks. Well worth for me.

The iPad pilot version has free lightning strikes overlay, something that is extra on the standard version.

I use the lightning strike feature to get an idea of when I need to drug our one Golden Retriever.

My weather map works well. It's not that slow. Have you done a software upgrade for you nav?

The Weather Map works on a separate screen with the Navigation Map and not the Primary Navigation Map Screen.

There are 3 levels of Fixed Display:

500 Mile Range
Shows Weather Map, Radar and Storm Cells

50 Mile Range
Shows Radar and Storm Cells

5 Mile Range
Shows Radar, Storm Cells, Wind Arrows and Wind Speed

The Weather Map will only display on the 500 mile range. The available options can be turned on or off at each level.

Frequency of Update:

It appears a new radar image is sent down the satellite every 10 minutes. The Weather Map is updated several times a day and the map gets pushed down periodically. There is an information button to tell you what time the latest image overlay was produced. When you first get in your truck, it may take a few minutes to receive the first image. Apparently they are pushed down the data stream on a cyclical pattern. They will update in the background when you are not on weather maps. Same for the traffic.

The quality of the radar image is somewhat blocky in resolution and gives you a general but not precise idea of where precipitation is occurring.

You also get current temperatures for several cities in each state along with a 5 day forecast and ski slope conditions. Also sports score, fuel prices and movie times.

Then there is the traffic option that highlights the major traffic arteries with estimated speed of traffic flow and road incidents including accidents, construction and weather related road issues.

I wish the Navigation Sound system was on par with the features Ford put on the Navigation Display. Unfortunately the $1800 Navigation Premium Audio sounds like a $150 vehicle radio with no presence, clarity or definition to the sound. It is a HUGE step BACKWARDS from the 2008 Audiophile Navigation Audio System.

Hopefully Ford will correct this problem on the 2012 truck and give us 2011 owners an option to upgrade our bad sounding $1800 Navigation Audio System.

When I have it turned on, I have the same Doppler radar on my Garmin GPS. Great for looking to see when to run and hide on the bike.

Thanks for all the input, 3 dealers and no one had the information you guys did. Hope for some improvements on the 2012's.
