Rear seat storage removal?

Has anyone been able to remove the storage compartment under the rear seat, I would much rather it to be flat under the seat.

Would like to replace with a folding metal tray like I had on my 05. Anyone have any ideas on where to get that part? Anyone able to get a part number?

Found someone to swap with. They wanted the storage bin, I wanted the flat tray. Slam dunk! Everything is interchangable.

I went to the classified section of this forum and under the "Interior" thread posted up a "Want to Buy" notice for a folding metal load floor. Within 48 hours I had numerous responses from all around the country. There are lots of guys who never use theirs or have removed them to install amps and such under the seat.

The going rate seemed to be about $200 including shipping. New from Ford they are $700. Fortunately one of the guys lives 30 miles away and I got the unit for $125. It came out of a 2004 and looked like new. He gave me the 6 flathead torx bolts too but I think the 13mm bolts that were holding down the storage tub would've worked too.

It takes a few minutes to unbolt the stock unit and a few more to bolt the load floor back in. No modifications required and now the dogs have a nice flat place to lay.
