Adding a Donaldson to my Flo-Pro exhaust...

So I finally installed my 5" Flo Pro DP back with muffler over the weekend and sounds great... just a bit on the louder side of what I was going for though... having small kids and the wife in the truck on long trips is going to be a no-go. I've read all the posts of everyone recomending the donaldson muffler. I'm thinking of swapping out the Flo Pro muffler with a 40" donaldson. obviously will require some trimming of the Flo Pro pipe to get it to fit but from what I can tell it should just slip on and clamp down like the Flo Pro does... right? do I need to worry about adding any extra support or anything and should this clamp in as I'm thinking? my plan is to just trim some length off the pipe just before the Flo Pro muffler and pop this one in. Does anyone know from experience if this will have less drone/rumble with excelleration than the Flo Pro (looking at the M090535 40 ") or should I just go with the 51"?

I'm running the 51" on a 4" flo pro delete pipe. It sounds almost stock. No drone at all. And yes the muffler will just slip right onto the delete pipe. I put the inlet of my muffler right onto the outlet of the down pipe (1st piece) of the flo pro. I cut the second piece to connect from the outlet of the muffler directly to the stock tailpipe. You should be able to do something similar with your setup. Just FYI my wife warned me against making the truck louder because it's our main family vehicle and even she says it still sounds "just like it used to only now I smell exhaust".

haha. yeah my wife got in it on saturday after I was done and we took the kids to run some errands... got "the look" from her in the first 30 seconds. I think I'll go with the 40 as a nice inbetween, a bit louder than stock but not as loud as the Flo Pro muffler.

So anyone who'e interested, I'll have a barely used stainless Flo Pro for sale in the near future.

I ended up with the 40" by mistake (my stupidity, really) for my 4" Flo-Pro and it works out really well. It is a lot quieter than straight and cuts the screech. There is plenty of support without adding hangers. Also, I still have enough room to add another 40" can and I have been pondering doing so. Sorry, but I don't have any experience with a 51".

I was on Donaldson's website earlier. you can download a PDF catalog of everything they have. It gives all the specs on everything as well.

Dantron: I've seen a few threads you posted in about the 51" you've got on your truck. how's it sound compared to stock? I don't want to go as quiet as stock but don't need the truck as loud as it is now. I measured the Flo Pro muffler I put on... it's only 14" long!! It's more like a resonator than a muffler. now I'm torn between the 44" M090535 or the 51" that everyone else is talking about.

Has anyone heard both and can comment on them?
