Should I lock out 6th?

I have a 2011 f250 ccsb deleted with gearhead engine and trans tune. I pull a 13k 5th wheel and was just wondering how I know if I'm overworking the truck in 6th. Kind of new to towing. Doing 70 mph on tow setting I'm at 1600rpm in 6th and 2000 in 5th. 3:55 gear ratio. Aldo egts drop about 70 degrees from 890 to 820ish when in 5th. How high is too high to constantly be running at? I know what the max is.

Def lock out 5th i tow ALOT and running 5th is the way to go i usually cruise on the freeway around 2000-2200 it yields the best gas mileage lowest EGTs and the faster the engine is turning the faster the water pump is spinning faster in turn keeping your coolant temps more consistent too. Another thing that will help you is try and keep er under 65 just the wind drag alone will give ya another MPG or 2 any trucker will tell ya the same thing.

Thanks! Also, anyone have any issues with the gearhead tunes not wanting to downshift at proper times when towing? Seems to want to hold onto the gear for too long.

On the LCD dash display gauge. How hot is your guys' transmissions getting? I pulled my 24' race trailer at 75mph all weekend and the trans got about 210-218. I'm all stock with 3.73 rear gears.

That's about what my Trans temp ran pulling my 15k 5th wheel. My water temp got to 212 a few times. Really didn't like that.

Pulling 29' TTTH with toys in bed and TT up a 6* grade climbing out of the desert to 4000 feet on the 8, I can see 240 on oil & 219 on transmission. 101* air temp at bottom and 89* at the top. 4th gear & 50 mph.

Yes 3.73 I have a Dually

This is in Illinois, 80 was the hottest it got. In my 6.0 that was bullet proofed I never saw 170 but also never went over 65mph towing.
