Tunes for MPGs

Hi all, I'm looking into this for my not so forum savvy brother. I have a 07 6.0. (Ya I know) and he has a 2011 6.7

He just bought a 2014 4400 cyclone toy hauler and wanted to see what he can do for better MPGs. The guy delivered it to CA from Ky. It was a 2013 6.7 dually and the guy got 7 MPG on the way out. This scared my bro a little. Lol. So he said he wants to get a bully dog like the delivery guy had. I have SCT on my 6.0 and told him bully was not good. But 6.0 vs 6.7 may be a different story. Any advise on what's the best for towing. And don't suggest the deleting cause he doesn't want to deal with the CA smog bull crap out here. Thanks guys!

There's really only one person advertising a MPG tune and it's total horse crap. You'll spend $300 on green tunes and all you'll get is a feel good lie-o-meter reading. Hand calculated it's worse than stock H&S tunes. Been there, done that. Not to mention the turbo oscillation and a trans that's trying to break itself. Avoid the Green Tunes.

H&S tuner is the most popular on the forums and it works well, but expecting huge mileage gains is pretty optimistic. You'll see 1-2mpg if you see anything. Deleted you'll get a little more, but not much and you already said you don't want to go that route.

The Spartan is another popular tuner, sorry, I don't have any direct experience with it. But that's about it for real tuners and the '11+ 6.7

Deleting only takes 2-3 hours to do. Not that bad once a year to pass emissions.
I run H&S on No Power mode and get pretty good mileage for a full size truck with 400+HP. I deleted just for the better mileage and engine longevity, not the extra power. I don't tow a huge hauler, but with a car on a trailer or similar I get 13-15 depending on how fast I set the cruise. With a smaller trailer I've gotten over 18 on the highway at 70. Empty at 65 I've hit 21 hand calculated.
I can't vouch for what the mileage was before tuning, as it only had 700 miles on it before I deleted it and never towed stock. I just swap in the DPF for a day, smog it, and yank it back off. Not a big deal. I did hear that CHP is looking for deleted trucks now, but if you put a nice muffler on it to quite it down, you should be fine. Straight piped its pretty darn loud.
