How to choose flow rate on a fuel pump?

How do you choose the flow rate on a fuel pump? Is there a science? if i plan on going with lots of power down the road can I just buy and install a 220gph and not have any issues now? The fuel rate is on demand or am I mistaken?

Fuel rates arent on demand, as far as most airdog a d fass units go, I know the raptor pumps are set to a pressure and will supply flow accordingly. The pumps will hold their advertised rate at advertised flow ans return what isnt used by the cp4, which is actually a less superior pump to the cp3.
