Gauges
I just bought a new 2012 F-250 Diesel and would like to keep ahead of things because of towing and stuff in the summer. I would really like to put some gauges in the truck to keep tabs on things better than stock. I would like to do a gauge for at least transmission temp. Is there any thing else I should keep tabs on? What gauges should I buy? I want accurate. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Either way you should look into the Edge Insight CTS. It is just a monitor, not a tuner. |

Also, not all trucks have the fancy car guages. My xlt only has the water and trans temp guages and I'm not sure how accurate these are? I would also like to know my EGT, Oil, Fuel Pressure and so on. |

Yeah I didn't get the digital interface on the truck. It came with the XLT Premium package which I did not get. Next time I will order a truck but things were too good price/rebate wise so I went with a 2012. I also don't trust the gauges that are in there.

Anyone else? Are gauges no what I should do?

I mean, you're correct in assuming that you can't trust those dial gauges on the dash. They're not even graduated if i remember correctly. So if you wish to know more about what's happening in your truck, you probably need some more monitoring equipment. The plug-in monitor is a pretty slick idea. Your truck is keeping an eye on what's going on and the sensors that are factory installed are going to be correct, so being able to see those signals sent to the ECU would be optimal. That is, unless you feel like tapping into gallery plugs to install sensors and then running the lines through the dash, which i'm sure would be a major PITA on these trucks.

So, a question about the Insight: It doesn't show oil pressure, does it?
The gas SuperDuties have an oil pressure in the far left position of the instrument cluster; in the diesel vehicles this gets replaced with a turbo boost gauge. I'd like to be able to monitor both oil pressure and oil temp with the Insight CTS, but from what I can tell from their website it only monitors oil temp. Similarly, it looks like it can display battery voltage, but not amperage. I'd love to be wrong... |
