New to the diesel life

I've had 3 F150's and finally got a deal on this f250. I was seeing 20-22 mpg on the highway coming home from the dealership. All week its been around 18-19 in the city. Today I hit reset and it fell down to 13-14... After reading all this I guess it's normal??

Do you guys with chips/programmers recommend them? Does it void you entire warranty or just part of it?

Sorry if I sound like a moron. Just trying to learn.

Thanks in advance.

Don't worry about mpg unless its hand calculated. Those computer's are usually off by 3-4mpg. Mine never read higher than 14.3 on my 2001 7.3 but I would consistently get 18/19 or up to 21/22 highway depending on how fast I was going and how many hills there are.
As far as tuning it wont help you as much as improving the airflow in your engine and driving like an old lady
Hope this helps...welcome to the org

S&B intake/ Straight pipe exhaust.

But those will void warrenty unless you find a mod friendly dealer

Yep like they said intake, intake manifold, straight pipe, get rid of emissions equipment, drive conservatively and build your truck for what you want it to do.....if you want good highway manners and mpg for example dont get 37in mud tires

No plans for 37in tires. Just wantin to squeeze a lil more MPG without coiding the warranty. She's brand new though. Less than 250 miles. Gonna get to do some hwy drivin this weekend goin to deer camp.

Here's another question. How often y'all gotta add DEF?
