Only real difference between a 4 and 5 inch exhaust is the 5 inch is typically a deeper tone. Performance wise, you will not notice any difference

So is it a waste of money?

Its not a waste if you want the deeper tone a 5" will give you. If you are doing it for performance than yes, it would be a waste. 5" looks and sounds great though, you wont be disappointed.

I know I'm out of my realm on this one, but would the 4 inch even match up to a 7.3 ? Just curious as ive been looking for a 4in.

My EGT's nerver get over 1150 with the 5 inch flopro and that is pulling an 8k Lbs boat

Your 4" exhaust performs better than the 5" until you start going for BIG numbers. With standard tuning and deletes, your 4" will technically be a better route, unless you want more rumble.
