Factory Transmission + HP?
Hi all - I am a former 7.3 owner but went to a Cummins in 08 because I needed a truck and couldn't wait for the new Ford 6.7 to be released. I am considering going back now and wanted some input on how the new 6speed auto is holding up with the deletes and tuner? I have enough experience with the Dodge transmissions to know what they are not capable of. How much power are guys pushing thru the new Ford auto? Is a trans tuner necessary? Should I plan on adding a high capacity pan or swapping out the valve body/converter? I haven't located any discussions here on this topic.
I have been reading the threads and it seems like shifting issues are the most common complaint with the new superduty - but none of these issues seem to be related to increased power. Granted it's only been on the market two years now but I assume that anyone running 550+hp should be getting some indication that a trans upgrade is in their future. Thanks for any feedback. |

I'm a 6.0 guy but I'm pretty sure I seen some real high numbers regarding the strength of the transmission.

The new trans is rated to hold like 1,300ft of torque. I think some companies have figure out how to tune the transmissions. Spartan has done a good job, but I sometimes get the occasional flare up, or weird shift. But it seems to be holding up just fine under the power levels. These new trucks have a weak turbo, and I guess the fueling system won't flow enough to go over 200 horse so tearing up the transmission shouldn't be a problem. Spartan tunes the transmissions when you load up the tunes. I would say you won't need to install a different converter, but the pan would be up to you. It all depends on what you are going to do with your truck.

I think it's rated for 1400 lb/ft. 6R140. 140 means 1400.
THe 4R100 was 1000, the 5R110 was 1100. So far what I've heard is about shifting issues fixed with a software update, but physically it's just as good as a 5R I think, just stronger. |

So i guess Spartan comes with a trans tuner? I am running an H&S on my Cummins and they sell the trans tuner seperately. Thanks for the feedback.

It's not a separate item, when you load up the tune to your truck it also tunes the transmission.
