6.7L Towing/hauling with tunes
I am about sick of another site I used to frequent it seems like everyone there is just trying to race their 8,000lb grocery getters and none of them are hauling anything more than their PMS meds. I have a diesel because I need it for towing but am considering a tuner for it, does anyone with a tuner tow? If so what do you tow, what are your EGT's, what is the MPG with the tuner, what reliability issues are you having with it?

I haven't been on in a long time so my sig isn't accurate anymore. I have a 2012 f-350 (second one to own). First one had 5" MBRP w/ muffler, h&s mini maxx tuner and that's it. Ran it 50,000 miles in a year towing over 50% of the time, all time average was 13mpg on the highest tune (which I shouldn't have done, idk why I always left it on that). This truck I have now has 4" flopro no muffler, mini maxx but run on the middle tune, have had it for 33,000 miles towing the same amount and all time average is 14.4mpg. I'm about to start doing some more stuff to it like intake, lift pump, etc and see what happens. Hope I could help.

What kind of trailer and how much weight are you towing, I would be elated with 13-14mpg?

I'll be making a trip from Central Alberta to St.Anthony dunes in Idaho in a couple weeks towing roughly 6500-7000lbs. I'll let you know how my mileage is. Gonna be running H&S Minimaxx on Mild.

Timely question, I am doing the same thing for towing purposes. My 5th is 12,500# empty and have had it up to 16,800# full of bikes, fuel, and beers. I usually get 9 mpg going up and down these hills between NM and CO. I just purchased a 5" SS Flo-Pro w/muffler (down pipe back) through Alligator Performance (site sponser) for $423. I plan on going the full delete with the H&S Mini Maxx. Doing all this for a hopefull 11mpg or better? ... Thoughts anyone? On the right track? Please no warranty preaching. |

I've got a 5th wheel dressed in around 13k. Stock, it was getting 8.5 to 9 pulling. Did the H&S mini maxx, 4" MBRP DPF delete with muffler and ERT blocker. Pulling camper now gets around 12.5 and 13 with a tailwind. I'm on 95% flat ground here and havn't made a hill trip yet. My milage empty, 18.5 on highway before work, 23.3 was my best mpg after work. Of course, you have to keep your foot out of it! I keep my tuner on mild all the time. I almost wish they had a "tow" tune on the H&S so i know i'm not adding unneeded horsepower. I was looking for the same as you. Truck has PLENTY of pulling power, just looking for milage. I hate to tell you, but the only thing that will give you better milage will be DPF delete. Everything else is superficial.

I tow anything from stacks of flatbed trailers weighing 20k, to loads of round bales of hay weighing 30k, to living quarter horse trailers that weigh between 8-10k, mainly between Amarillo, TX and Oklahoma City, and from Amarillo to DFW, which both have good amounts of hills and always windy. As said before, I have plenty of power to pull anything and am more than happy with the 14mpg average, and still looking for more. I'm about to do an AirDog or Fass fuel system and some other stuff but once again I am very happy with the truck.

With towing, the main concern is high egt's which any tune will produce. I set my pyro temp defuel level low, and it defuels at a given point and does not build high egt's. I pulled my 5'ver from Phoenix, to Flagstaff, and it defueled cut power and the climb was uneventful.

what tune are you guys towing these heavy loads with? my 5th weighs about 13 14k im guessing no power tune? thanks for all this info!
