Gauges
My new 2011 is supposed to arrive in a few weeks, this will be my 5th diesel rig. I've read through most of threads here but still have a few questions.
The new trucks are supposed to have boost and tranny temp gauges I think. Are they OK or basically worthless?
I am not terribly interested right now in adding any performance to the truck during warranty, but I do like to have pedestal gauges showing EGT, Boost and tranny temp. It would be nice to be able to upgrade later if I do want to add a performance tune. I've read online about quite a few of the different devices out there and would like the opinion of folks who have actually used them.
Can you get accurate EGT readings with a gauge/tuner that uses the factory pyros or do you have to install an after market pyro? It sounds like adding one is difficult on these new motors unless you do a DPF delete. That isn't an option for me in Colorado.
I see the MP-8 plugs in to the OBDII port so it's an easy install. Is the gauge large enough to read easily while driving? Are the gauges accurate using the factory pyro? I've heard some people complain about the cheesy mount and the fact the plug sticks way out of the OBD port.
Are there any other gauge only options? What about gauge now/upgrade to tuner later?
Of all of the tuners, which of them has the best gauge functions and a nice pedestal mount?
