Oil

Hey Guys,

What is the best oil and filter to use for the 6.7? I'm thinking royal purple or Mobil one. There are some manufacturers that make "special" diesel oil but I'm not sure what to use. Also I'm thinking 5w-40 should do the trick. no big hauls just yet for my truck.

I thought that Ford put something like 0w30 in the 6.7 motors. Isn't that the weight of the Motorcraft diesel synthetic oil?

I have a 6.4 and I use Amsoil and 15w-40. I changed to 5w-40 and my mileage lowered. I switched back to 15w-40 and gained almost two MPG. Go figure. Is this normal?

Had the opposite happen to me on my 6.4. I'm running Rotela T6 5w40. 15w40 was a killer for my mpg. But on the 6.7 I thought that they are calling for a 30wt oil.

So what is the Ford recommended oil for the 6.7? Is it 5w30?

This is taken from page 42 of the 6.7 Diesel Supplement (referred to by the owners manual). The SAE 5W-40 API CJ-4 is recommended for severe duty. My question would be - is it advisable to use this over the 10W-30 API CJ-4 even if I classify my use as normal? (I suppose it would be a small price to pay for added protection)
