So does anyone have any stories or truth behind the fact that the EPA enforcement group and or DOT/state/local authorities can come after us owners of modified diesel trucks?
Opinions on the matter? Anyone ever been pulled over and questioned?
Trucks not deleted yet for the reason of possible DOT bullsh**. BUT my opinion is that for everyone out there that IS deleted and not dogging the hell out of their trucks and blowing smoke all over people.... we shouldnt be messed with. IF i was a cop... and i saw somebody roaling coal, hellin down the road just for ****s and giggles, i would probably have to pull that guy over. For us people that delete for better fuel economy, reliability, and towing performance and dont abuse the power..... We shouldn't be touched by any enforcement agency. Just my .02
Yup, completely agree... it's usually the 2% that give the other 98% a bad name and create problems for the masses.
dig through these, and other, forums for long enough and you will find that most, if not all, cases of people being sited for delete mods are all second hand.... i.e. "a guy I know", "a friend of a friend" etc... have yet to see one (except for California) where someone posted about how they themselves were pulled over and sited for tampering with emissions equip...
I have never been pulled over, most cops around here would rather pull you over for bumper height... If you are flooring it through the city at night though be ready for some noise violations however.
Be wary around VA. They have been parking vans on the on ramps. They will monitor emissions output and send you a nice letter. It's pretty sly for sure. You think they are one of those vans that check the physical condition of the roads. Unmarked, NO real reason to think they are anything GOV.
Just asked my people about it. Your letter directs you to hit the local emissions station. In the end it seems to be related to where you live (i.e. VA county) and emissions regulations for that county.
In the end to answer the OP...YES ....it may not be state wide or vehicle specific but it's happening in VA.
I'm in California and deleted. I'm pretty cautious around CHP as I don't want to get pulled over but still pretty nervous since this state is so anal about emissions bs.
Not trying to stir the pot but whats wrong with blowing a little smoke? OK, I'm guilty i have recently been smokin a little more than anyone could call "usual" but with my new found power.... Its hard to resist. I know in a couple weeks ill go back to driving slower how i always drive, but for now ill have some fun. I live in a small town in the mountains with zero emissions control. My truck does not block/obscure the road or anyone's sight like a 6.4l might do or the a**hole cummins guys who REALLY smoke like this one guy in particular who i think hates Ford because every time he sees my truck, even if he is stuck in traffic, he will DUMP smoke into the atmosphere through his stacks. Back to the OP, i have not heard of anyone in my state, NM, get pulled over for emissions equipment related issues.
Hey now... To be fair a 6.4 won't blow any more smoke than your 6.7 will. Actually our turbos clean up quite a bit better than yours :look: So don't even start with that lol.
The problem with blowing any smoke is it brings attention to you and eventually to the rest of us. As "cool" as you think it is to have a puff of black smoke every time you leave a light, it really does hurt. For all you know there is an angry little hippie in the 4 banger behind you taking video the whole time ready to send it off to the epa with a heart felt letter stating how you made their asthmapneumoniaheartburn worse...
You may not run into an issue today, tomorrow, next month, or in 4 years... But its slowly screwing every single American that owns any kind of modified vehicle.
Your kidding me right? A 6.4L will out smoke a 6.7L, well, in my experience. I had a 6.4L before, and i loved it! Really great truck and power was always on tap. I was fully delete, spar tan 310EL, built trans, and A LOT of smoke. Maybe its because of the altitude where im at (above 7000ft) but the 6.4L really did smoke a lot more than my current 6.7L. But i get your point, and respect it. But im not worried here where im at, maybe if i was in CA. But thats a different story.
310hp tune... You realize how much fuel that is right? Your 6.7 would smoke just as much (right after the bottom end goes boom)...
I am talking the typical 150-200hp street tunes. My 6.4 doesn't smoke unless you stand on it... And even then its a very very slight haze. Just the same that yours would be running the same tune. As would any 6.7.
Hey hey hey now, taking a stab at the 6.7L bottom end arnt yeah? :sly: I was talking about max performance tunes on both sides, not street tunes. I use the max tunes because they usually net better MPG when you drive easy.
