I just bought a new 2016 F250 lariat. I really want to do the full DPF/DEF, EGR and tuner. Has anyone else done this to their brand new truck. I am just worried something might happen and I will be screwed if something comes up. I have no emissions testing here so thats not a concern. Also What tuner brand or diesel would yall recommend. I always ran elite diesel tunes in all my 6.0 but I'm not too familier with the 6.7 performance crowd. On a side note I am also planning to put on a 10" lift with 40's. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I have a 2016 with about 9000 miles and went with Spartan. So far very pleased with the tuner. Contact Mike at no limit and he'll get you everything you need at a good price. Went with flo pro pipe, no limit stage 1 intake and egr block off plates as well.
Does anyone have a good video or link to one of a deleted 15 or 16 doing anything other than idling or revving in neutral? I've found good videos of 6.4s and 11-14 6.7s under a load but nothing for a deleted 15 or 16. I want to get a better idea of how loud it is under a load before I pull the trigger. Sitting still sounds way different than wot going down the road....
I have a '16 F250 XL. Drove it home from the dealer, and with 30 miles on the ODO, loaded the tune from the SCT X4 and started the delete process. The DPF and EGR deletes went fairly smooth, with only a couple hiccups. I still have to do the CCV delete, but I'm currently working on installing the lift kit.
I went with Mike at No Limit. Good guys there. Only major issue so far is that the Edge CTS2 doesn't work on the 16's yet, (at least mine doesn't) so I can't monitor EGT's with the probe I installed on the NLF EGR delete plate. Edge says they will absolutely have an update, but not for another 2-4 months.
I did a dpf delete on my 15 at about 6k miles, went with an Sct x4 with gearhead tunes courtesy of Mike at No Limit, absolutely love it and worth every penny! Sounds amazing compared to my deleted 13
My performance shop is telling me he has and H&S Tuner that will work with my 15 with no problems its just a single custom tune dpf delete. Does this sound right? He has done them on the 15's before with no issues. I am only asking because this is first powerstroke. I have usually owned dodges but got a bad taste in my mouth with the last one I bought. This guy is also very popular with the cummins world and has done numerous things in magazines and so forth with his personal trucks. Can i trust what he is telling me, cause everything i read says no H&S for 2015
I would stay away. Not only does H&S not work with 2015+ he's not even using an actual MM. It's a bully dog unit hacked with H&S software. Stick with SCT or Spartan.
The only reason i am bringing this up is because this guy is very and i mean VERY popular with cummins and to an extent duramax. He is one of the people that Smarty and SCT send things to and he does R&D with the tuning and logistics with the computers. He helped develop some of the software for deleting the new cummins. I mean this guy knows his stuff when it comes to tuners and has never done me wrong with any dodges. It just throws a red flag up in the air about H&S tuning my 2015 do you know of anyone that could have any bigger insight on this. Like i said new to the powerstroke world. Thanks for the help guys
Talkin about Ryan Milliken? He tuned my '11 6.7. Got the tunes from H&S...as he still has the people who built their tunes in his phone. So far no issues on my end.
I just want to know what all is bad about the situation. It is a H&S Tuner that he has unlocked he writes the tune himself nothing from any other company. What if he has access to things that others don't. I know for a fact he has parts on his 6 speed cummins that no one else can get? All i am wanting to know is if there is a case that it is all legit? I believe you it could be a bad idea sir, that's why i am asking. Part of me is leaning toward the SCT for couple more bucks
So in that case what about the SCT X4. I dont really need all the bells and whistles of the livewire. Are the tunes that come with it good for extra fuel mileage.
Think about it. You just spent $50k+ on your truck. Now you want to mess with the emissions devices AND alter the pcm.
Knowing that H&S is no longer in the game nor do they have any tuners that support 2015+ do you really want to risk it with a hacked tuner this guy is trying to sell you?
Here's a some what ****ty analogy. I have a MacBook. I downloaded fusion ware and a "hacked" version of Windows 8 so I can run Windows on my Mac. While it does run there is always some kind of error message popping up when I run Windows. It's not 100% stable as if I were to buy the real deal. That's what you'd be doing with your trucks computer.
I completely understand that and more like 60K I screwed up and bought platnium (I miss my mega cab limited) But yes i hear what all is saying but i dont want to get customs tunes if i get SCT so are the factory canned tunes worth a dang? Also do i need to buy block off for EGR like i did for my cummins? Or does the tune delete the EGR?
Strategy Code? What is that im asking simply because if i do get the SCT i will order online from somewhere. Does the SCT X4 allow for me to use it as a montior or diagnostic tool as well?
You are answering all your questions. Its risky to just retune your truck. These trucks are more complicated than last year. many changes have occurred with the trucks software. Tuning sometimes causes problems with warranty repairs at dealers. Some don't care but those dealers are hard to find unless you have a standing relationship with them. Sure you can take the EGR off and delete the DEF system but why. The new 6.7 is much improved over the previous diesels that had all this EGR stuff on motors that weren't really designed for pollution control. My truck works just fine with all the stuff intact. It's got plenty of power moves out just fine for a truck. I am sure some guys think I'm nuts to leave my truck alone but if it brakes it's on me.
I'd debate pulling the EGR crap for the sheer fact that emissions equipment on the 6.7 can disable it on the side of the road - huge danger should you be driving down the interstate at the time a EGR decides to go up
I went with SCT Livewire on my 15 and I really miss my H&S I had on my 08 Cummins. Is the Spartan for 15 + better than the SCT? The SCT is not shift on the fly and I didn't think I would mind that at first but I really dislike it now having had both. I'm looking at a 17 when they come out so I would again be in the market for a tuner can anyone tell me the advantages of the Spartan over the SCT?
So, if the SCT adds 40, 120, and 180hp on the '15/'16's, what are the corresponding torque levels that go along with those hp levels?? Also, can someone explain the difference between "turbo back" and "downpipe back"?? And lastly, does one or both of these options eliminate the catalytic converter??
