Picked up a 12 6.7 the other day. I've always driven studded sct tuned 6.0's, I drive 40 miles each way to work everyday and tow a boat once a week. Looking for the best performance/reliability/fuel economy package in one. Tuner, dpf delete and exhaust combo, what's the best to have on a truck used as I use mine??
I've always had sct with custom tunes, didn't know if the same was best for the 6.7 as well. Only thing I saw I liked on the Spartan and h&s was the fact that they had a digital gauge that doesn't require a pod.
Another thing, to get an exhaust with cat and dpf delete in one kit would I be looking for a downpipe back or do you still have to buy depete pipes separately??
I have a No Limit EGR delete kit and aFe mach force XP (4") exhaust system, and just ordered an H&S minimax from No Limit. It's a personal choice what you want to go with after your research. I chose the minimax because I couldn't find one negative review, and the people I've spoke with who have them love 'em. I can't wait to get everything installed!
I'm with you, I haven't heard a single bad thing about the minimax I have just always know a custom tune to be a little more powerful and reliable. I do like the h&s setup though with the little dash pod and it had your gauges all in one.
I'm hopefully about to get a kit for mine. I'm going with a dual 4" exhaust and an SCTx4 as I already have an insight for monitoring. I want a good conservative street or tow tune. I had a mini on my 6.4 but don't see that it's worth paying the extra for it. However Spartan has just come out with some new stuff that is getting a lot of praise. Definitely worth checking them out.
Give Mike a call and he will take care of you. Talk to him about a stage 2 intake, a Flo-pro 4" delete pipe or full exhaust, EGR plates, a XRT with Alberta Speed tunes and a CTS2. The major differences between the MM and the XRT is the defueling, monitoring and shift on the fly abilities of the MM. I prefer to have the CTS but I value the defueling more than the shift on the fly. Mike will steer you straight. Take a couple of paychecks with you...
So when you guys delete all this emission crap and ad a tuner do your trucks put out black smoke like the older diesels? Even though I live in Florida where their is no emission testing I would not want to be pumping out black smoke giving away that I deleted the emission crap.
Also what are the monetary fines if caught?
Depends on the tune and how heavy your foot is, but yes it is possible.
Fines are unique to your area, federal law does not prohibit driving a car with tampered emissions equipment, state or local law may prohibit it.
The EPA fines are generally for tampering with the emissions, so technically they have to prove who did the work to levy the fines. This is mostly aimed at shops or companies providing the parts.
No person shall operate on the public roads or streets of this state any diesel-powered motor vehicle which emits visible emissions from the exhaust pipe for more than a continuous period of 5 seconds, except during engine acceleration, engine lugging, or engine deceleration.
Ok help me out. Whats a KEM tune or a PIP tune? I know you guys have laid out a lot of dough so what tune do I get? Street driving and towing a 42' trailer. Looking for mileage
I was in the same boat earlier this year. After many phone calls, tons of reading, and talking to current owners of several tuning setups I ended up with an SCT tuner and PIP tunes.
For what I use my truck for that was the right fit for me.
I'm looking into a kit as well. I have similar truck 12 fx4 cc/sb and I am stuck in between h&s mini or SCT live wire with s&b intake and flo pro 4in down pipe back. The tuner is the tough part. I can get the whole kit with the SCT tuner for just as much as the h&s mini is by itself. Any guidance and information would be greatly appreciated. By the first diesel to own super stoked love this truck. Just want the longevity and power to boot. Sorry for the rambling
An H&S tuner with GH tunes is the best 11-14 combo running. The SCT has had more issues, but less time on the market and it now has GH available on it as well. Call No Limit and Mike will point you in the right direction for your driving style. A MM or XRT with GH tunes, a DP back Flo-pro 4", CTS2 and a stage 2 intake are pretty basic mods and are tough to beat.
The MM will also defuel and the XRT does not. But it shows fewer monitored items on the screen than the CTS and running them both at the same time can be problematic. Both good choices either way.
So the MM and the Edge CTS have compatibility issues? but the MM doesn't show as many PIDs as the CTS...so you're stuck with good tuner/tuning OR good system monitoring?
